Immediately after Trump’s inauguration, the internet was abuzz by a mysterious letter that Obama left in the desk drawer of the Oval Office for his successor. President Trump would not discuss the contents of the letter to prying reporters, only saying that it was “well written” and that he thanked Obama for taking the time to write it. But now news is breaking of the contents of the note, after someone close to President Trump just spilled the beans.
It’s traditional that the outgoing president leaves behind a letter for his successor on the presidential desk. What is not traditional however, is for the outgoing president to BEG his successor to not undo his policies. House Minority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., discussed the contents of the letter with President Trump, where it was nothing short of a desperate plea of Obama begging President Trump to “salvage” his signature legislation of Obamacare.
“I haven’t seen the letter,” House Minority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told reporters Tuesday, after a meeting where President Donald Trump described some of the letter’s contents. “But President Obama correctly … stated that, ‘Look, we believe the Affordable Care Act is a very important piece of legislation which has given Americans better health, better access, more reliability. And if you have a bill … that improves upon all this, well, you know, maybe I could support it.
While Obama wasn’t actually down on his hands and knees begging President Trump to not flush his signature legislation down the toilet, the letter he left in the desk door of the Oval Office comes pretty damn close.
Obviously President Trump didn’t take Obama’s pleas to heart, given that one of the first things he did as Commander-in-Chief was to sign an executive order that moved into the direction of unraveling Obama’s signature legislation.
