NAUGATUCK, CONN – August 2: Wayne Winsley, candidate for the U.S. Congress representing all of the
citizens of the 3rd Congressional District, today released the following statement:
“This week, I observed Incumbent Rosa DeLauro in front of a group of senior citizens in West Haven.
As I watched her demeanor – and listened closely to what she chose to say – what came to mind was the
character from Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist… the Artful Dodger.
Incumbent DeLauro rolled out the political con when she extolled the many virtues of Social Security
while dodging the fact that our biggest entitlement programs face imminent implosion if not structurally
reformed. When challenged by a senior in the audience that Social Security would be bankrupt in about
20 years, the incumbent responded with a terse, “No it’s not.” then quickly looked away shifting the
discussion. But, Incumbent DeLauro can no longer run away from the truth and the facts. Specifically:
“The Congressional Budget Office projects that Medicare in its current form will be bankrupt by 2022.” Social Security’s chief actuary
calculates that a 23% cut in benefits in 2036 will be required in order to maintain solvency of the Social Security Trust Fund.”

Next, Incumbent DeLauro ducked to real issue of out of control government spending by hiding behind
the straw man of reducing subsidies to farmers and big oil. (Of course, DeLauro made no mention that her
household income was handsomely increased due to earned payments from BP to her husband to create
“BP’s…green…slogan “Beyond Petroleum.”)
Incumbent DeLauro also sidestepped the current administration’s HHS mandate by emphasizing that
churches themselves, and other houses of worship, are exempt from paying for services that go against
their beliefs. Yet, again, Insider DeLauro brazenly ignores the significant Constitutional issue of import
that the Executive Branch of the federal government – for the first time in American history – brazenly
attempts to redefine – and limit – our free expression of religion.
Incumbent DeLauro employs the political dodge with a skill honed over two decades as a Washington
insider, all the while picking the people’s pockets. Incumbent DeLauro is truly an artful dodger of
Dickensian proportions.
We must do better and we will do better. As your next representative, I – Wayne Winsley – will serve the
citizens of the Third Congressional with forthrightness, honor, and integrity.
